  2.   Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  3.   Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.

 

  1. Reaction of the crowd.
  2.   Proud people and had a different understanding of their Messiah - believed He would             be mighty and warrior-like and would subdue the earth and set up the kingdom             with Israel in control - different understanding of Isaiah 40-60.

 

  1. Reaction of the world.
  2.   World cannot understand this meekness
  3.   Believers are altogether different than the world in our relation to Jesus
