In other words -Timothy - in all your pastoral work you must have soul-winning at its heart.

Now Paul shifts to his own home-going - to give Timothy a glimpse of joy and fulfillment in finishing his ministry and departing for glory. The final words of dying men and women are generally devoid of lies, self-righteousness and empty words.

The words reflect their true beliefs and feelings.

Paul’s word is triumphant

  1. Paul looked ahead vs 8

Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing

  2.  He knew who would confer it: the Lord Jesus, the righteous Judge.
