2 Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.


2 Timothy 3:1-9 “Hard times”

  1.  Introduction vs 1  
  2.  A dose of reality for Timothy on times of difficulty (savage brutal, fierce)
  3.  Timothy, you need a battle plan.
  4.  The last days have arrived and even today- we are in them!
  5.  These days are coming to the Church
  6.  As we read vs 1-4 - read them as Paul would have wrote them to Timothy and knowing the harshness                 of the coming times.
  7.  Paul is convinced that Timothy is prepared for them - he needed encouragement.
  8.  Verse 13 tells us that difficult times will come and go from bad to worse. It has!
  9.  You can track the heresies and false teaching as it impacted the church since the end of                     hostilities and persecution in 4-500 AD

II The Descent vs 2-4

  1.  Characteristics of ungodliness vs 2-4
  2.  Lovers of self
  3.  Lovers of money
  4.  Proud and Arrogant
  5.  Abusive and Revilers
  6.  Disobedient to parents
  7.  Ungrateful and Unholy
  8.  Heartless and Unappeasable
  9.  Slanderous and without self-control
  10.  Brutal and Not loving good

        10 Treacherous and Reckless

        11 Swollen with conceit

        12 Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God

III. False Teachers - Avoid them vs 5-7

  1.  They have a form of godliness but deny its power
  2.  True Christianity cannot be hidden
  3.  We are to avoid these false teachers
  4.  They prey upon helpless
  5. Those that oppose the Truth vs 8-9
  6.  Paul compares these false teachers to 2 men that were probably false magicians opposed Moses
  7.  These false teachers oppose God and corrupt the church from within.
  8.  They will be stopped in their tracks, stripped of their power and exposed.
