  1.  Introduction vs 20

Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.

 

  1.  What kind of vessels does God use to feed the world the pure gospel message?
  2.  Those that are honorable, or, those that are dishonorable?
  3.  God uses cleansed people to proclaim His Good News.  They are defined by two characteristics:
  4. They flee sin and the pursue Godliness!
  5.  Chapter 2:19 refers to the invisible universal church- the body of Christ.
  6.  Chapter 2:20 “great house” refers to the visible church- the local body - the local church
  7.  The invisible church is made up of born again believers only
  8.  The visible local church is made up of faithful  born again believers and those who are not saved and             those who are saved and  are not faithful.
  9.  Paul gives Timothy a portrait of what true believers look like in the local body - not only are they
  10.  Teachers, soldiers, athletes and farmers but
  11.  They are also vessels- utensils, gold and silver and wood and clay - honorable and dishonorable

 

  1.   Six marks of a true Christian vs 21-26

   

  1.  God wants cleansed vessels - vs 21(a)

        Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use

       

  1.  God want consecrated vessels -vs 21(b)

        Set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house,

       

  1. C.  God wants prepared vessels - vs 21(c)

        set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.  

       

  1.  God wants “pure heart” vessels -vs 22

        Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

 

  1.  God wants us to be wise vessels - vs 23

But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels.

  1.  God wants kind, patient and gentle vessels -vs 24-26

        The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when             wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them         repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will
