“I know whom I have believed”

 

  1.  Introduction

 

  1.  Paul said in vs 1:12 that he was not ashamed for “I know whom I believe…”
  2.  Do you know whom you believe in for eternal life?.
  3.  Are you ashamed of whom you have believed in?
  4.  Paul is not ashamed and wants Timothy to not be ashamed.
  5.  Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to                 everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek”
  6.  Paul is talking about the gospel of Jesus Christ

 

  1. Paul the Example to Timothy vs 12-14

 

    A  Paul’s Gospel.

 

  1.  What is it - “It is a message of forgiveness for sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ on             the cross. It is essentially God’s rescue plan of redemption for those who trust, through                   faith, in His divine Son, Jesus Christ in order to be reconciled to a just and Holy God”

        2  1 Corinthians 15:4-4

  1.      Christ died for our sins
  2.      Christ was buried - (he died)
  3.      Christ was raised physically for the 3rd day

 

  1.  Paul’s Persecution vs 12
  2.  Paul uses himself as an example on why he suffers as he does.
  3.  Paul’s redemption on the road to Damascus.
  4.  But he is not ashamed - Why?

 

  1.  Pauls Persuasion vs 12

 

  1.     “ I Know whom I have believed and that He is able to guard until that Day what has been                 entrusted to me”

 

  1.  Paul’s Persistence vs 13-14

 

  1.      Paul wants Timothy to follow his example and is persistent in his message
  2.          “Follow the patter of sound word that you have heard from me”  

                    (1)  Gospel and sound doctrine.

  1.      The charge to each generation through the power of the Holy Spirit.
